01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

No matter where you cut the candy cylinder, the same folk-hero face looks right back at you. That technique of rolled patterned hard candy (kumi-ame) has been preserved across generations at Kintaro-ame Honten in Taito Ward's Negishi neighborhood. Housing an on-site confectionery workshop, the main shop showcases the iconic stick candies bearing Kintaro's features alongside a wide assortment of other illustrated motifs.

Beyond the flagship Kintaro candies, the shelves offer straightforward, everyday treats with subtle sweetness, including roasted soybean flour kinako candy, throat lozenges, yuzu citrus, and ginger flavors. The shop also produces themed sweets tailored to seasonal traditions and milestones: long chitose-ame sticks for children's festivals, zodiac candies popular around the New Year, and pieces featuring the mythical Amabie figure, making it an engaging place to pick up gifts.

Shoppers may also happen upon bargain scrap bags filled with assorted colorful ends cut during production, ideal for relaxed snacking at home. Located near Minowa Station on the Hibiya Line, the store operates on weekday daytimes. Cashless code payments, including PayPay and Rakuten Pay, are accepted at the register.
